Today I did a commercial for a new roller coaster at Busch Gardens (we got paid to ride it over and over!). It was a lot of fun, but the craziest thing happened while I was there...
The roller coaster, first off, is the only roller coaster with a completely 90 degree drop in America (there are two others in the world). There are only 3 rows of seats, and each row holds about 8 people. I was in the middle row on the very end. Although the coaster is under you, the seats are raised up on a platform from the "floor" that you use get on, so your feet are dangling the entire time.
So after we went on it three or four times, we got a snack/water break. During the break, someone asked if I had a cell phone, and as I began looking for it, I realized it must have fallen out during one of the rides! I told the people working the coaster and they let me know that if they found it, they'd give me a call.
So anyway, on the 8th or 9th trip, as the coaster is going up the incline, I feel my keys start to fall out of my pocket, and right as it reaches the top of the incline, they fall out onto the raised platform that the seats are on. Since the roller coaster goes around a half-circle before the drop, me and Brooke (the girl next to me) were frantically trying to reach my keys, which were only about 2 inches from either of our finger tips.
On each ride, the roller coaster freezes right before the drop, with the front row completely on the 90 degree angle, the second row (my row) on a 45 degree angle, and the back row still straight up. So as our row froze at the 45 degree angle, my keys slid from the platform that our seats were on, onto the low floor in front of us (which was impossible to reach). So of course we're just sitting there staring at my keys, and Brooke mentions something about me being "totally screwed". Then, right as the roller coaster drops, my keys fly up in mid-air in front of us...
And I caught them.
How friggin awesome is that? Everyone in the back row started cheering when they saw that I had them in my hand, I think it was definitely a once in a lifetime thing. I don't think I'd ever be able to repeat something like that again. Ever.
Anyway, that's my amazing story for the day. Now I'm off to email all of my friends and let them know that I need their numbers again since I don't have my phone anymore.
Peace,
JJ
